Archer Baildon

Story

Inspired by his friend, Archer decided he would like to set himself a challenge and undertake his first sponsored event. He decided on the Spartan race as he enjoys running and Grit Ninja courses, and felt it would be a challenge to combine these for the first time.

When learning about charities and deciding upon one that is meaningful to him, he was very moved by the challenges children in rural Kenya face every day, such as missing school as they have to collect water for their family instead. He also learned that they don't have the same access to computers and robotics equipment that he does. Archer loves coding and robotics and aspires to be an engineer.

Through Kenya Connect, Archer's goal is to help children in rural Kenya have the same opportunities that he does. Items he is raising money for include:

  • $1800 - Supporting 4 teams of students to compete in a Robotics Competition ($450/team)
  • $500 - Support a Coding Club for 1 year
  • $400 - Lego Spike Kit for Robotics Education
  • $280 - ChromeBook

Archer would like to say thank you to everyone who is able to help him with his first sponsored event. He has been training hard, running hills with his dad after long days at school, in anticipation of the race. He chose $1800 as his goal as he hopes to support as many teams as possible to attend the Robotics Competition!

Kenya Connect, Inc.

Kenya Connect is working to transform education in rural Kenya through enriching students, teachers and parents at 63 government schools with literacy, technology and empowerment programs. Our programs are designed to give students options and skills so they can pursue their dreams. Students are using computers for the first time, learning coding, robitics and other tech skills. They are borrowing books during our mobile library program, and they are learning about peer pressure and making good decisions.
