I'm taking part in one of the biggest challenges there is... a Spartan Race!

Why? 

Ronald McDonald House is an amazing organization that helped my four member Willi Family through tough times...  Words can't fully describe the joy and fear of bringing a child into this world.  In 2019, our first child, Griffen was born (after 36 hours of labor from a true spartan) a healthy baby boy.  At our child's 1st doctors appointment 3 days later, he was registering a low body temperature, which possibly means an infection has set in.  With a child so small, an infection can be serious.  We rushed to Stony Brook Hospital and were immediately admitted.  Griffen was whisked away to be hooked up to monitors, IVs and undergo a series of invasive tests (including a spinal tap).  The full panel of results would not be back from the lab for 5 days.  The hospital was relatively full, so we were placed in a room in the pediatric cancer wing.  We were worried and scared for the next few days awaiting test results... 

However, what did shine bright during that week's time was the unbelievable work the Ronald McDonald House was doing in that wing.  There were children recovering, undergoing treatments and even terminally ill.  But also in that wing, several rooms were reserved by the RMcD House for the parents of these children as a place to just take a break, eat, shower, or reset their mind.  They also arranged for dinner each night and toys for the sick children.  These seemingly small gifts of charity given to the kids and their parents bring a enormously bright beacon of hope into their dark times.  So much so, that 5 years after my experience in the hospital (and being so grateful to leave with a fully healthy child) I am prepared to mentally and physically push myself to the limit, both in training and on race day, to help support Ronald McDonald House of Long Island.
